This page is a quick tutorial to help you with your first steps in the Mintoc wiki.

Step 1: Sign Up

Well, we all hate to sign up, get tons of passwords and the threat of future spam mail. Wikis are so attractive, because often here you can contribute in an easy way, without having to sign up. Well, that s the theory. After automatic bots modified the pages several times within the first weeks mintoc was online (to include links to spam and phishing pages), we decided to change settings to allow editing only for registered users. Well, unless you want to do so, the only thing you need to do is to choose a user name, a password, and give your email address (which will be kept confidential). Not this bad, is it? Sorry for the inconvenience, anyway.

Well, here is what you need to do: click on the register link (top right), and follow the instructions. Your login could consist of your first and last name in CamelCase, e.g. Bob Marley becomes BobMarley, Samuel L. Jackson becomes SamuelJackson. This scheme simplifies linking to user pages since you don't have to search for their user names.

Optional: Step 2: Add a Personal Page

For every registered user a personal page is automatically created. There, you can add information about yourself. It can be accessed by either by clicking on UserName at the top right corner if you are logged in, by pressing Alt-Shift-. simultaneously or by searching for the page User:UserName.

After creating your account, the page is empty. Every user may/should add some content there, even if just a link to an existing personal page. There is a tutorial with a sample page that will support you with this task. Feel free to customize the sample page to your own needs. Information on the wiki markup and other features can be found here:.

Optional: Step 3: Things you should know

Wikis are great to quickly create documentation. However, since different people do things in different ways, result tend to end up cluttered and unstructured. To prevent this, users of this wiki agreed to follow some guidelines when adding content. Please read them carefully before adding content. It will help to keep this wiki structured and easily readable.
