This is a category with all control problems that seek for energy-optimal solutions, e.g., reaching a certain goal or completing a certain process with a minimum amount of energy. The objective function is of Lagrange type and sometimes proportional to a minimization of the squared control (e.g., acceleration) , e.g.,

Almost always an upper bound on the free end time needs to be specified.
